      • I_D0nt_pay_taxes110 hours ago

Well… at least it ain’t Sydney Funnel Webs.

  • dangermouse29610 hours ago

Can I just say that I’ve always respected how Australia has competitive or better national teams in just about every team sport and don’t just act like the English and pretend sports like basketball don’t exist outside of the US

  • Chassyg123👤110 hours ago

Congrats Seppos can’t wait to see you lot next year

  • IcePac_2Cube👤510 hours ago

Can’t really be too disappointed at that result. US had that extra quality, they were really good at breaking the press wide open at times when playing out of the back, in a way that the Canadians really couldn’t. Must be pretty frustrating being a US fan when some of those chances they had really should’ve been buried.

Oh well, as for us, it was only a matter of time before Haramball really came unstuck.

  • bruversonbruh310 hours ago

If the USA fielded a team of 11 emus would Australia lose to them too/again?

    • MilkByHomelander110 hours ago

Depends, will ICE snatch them off the pitch for being brown?

    • Equivalent_Hall_2102👤310 hours ago

They are built for football. Fast. Long Legs. Tall.. Maybe we should field them ourselves!

  • TeamRocketApologist👤811 hours ago

    Baseball > Cricket

    • bruversonbruh410 hours ago

      Both a bit shit tho

      • I_r_hooman110 hours ago

        Don’t disrespect Cricket like that.

Also Baseball would be great if it wasn’t for all the ads. Actually you can say that about most US sports.

    • Equivalent_Hall_2102👤110 hours ago

      Now you’ve gone too far!

  • Emukt👤111 hours ago

A Michael Hutchence inspired choke for sure.

  • MilkByHomelander-111 hours ago

Ref ended the game early. Result doesn’t count. Confirmed

  • bruversonbruh511 hours ago

Although they’ve been the better team overall, USA’s passing has been horrid at best

  • Emukt👤411 hours ago

“Can we go back to playing Papua New Guinea?”

    • MilkByHomelander-511 hours ago

Been about 40 odd years since we played them last. They’d probably have a better understanding of the sport than the Yanks.

      • Mysterious-Use-7028👤15 hours ago

You mean the sport you can’t beat us in?

        • MilkByHomelander15 hours ago

Oh no you beat an experimental Australian side in a friendly, what ever shall we do

What I learned about Australians from this thread:

They are a lot more than “ just Texan Brits “

They really like talking about [redacted] for some reason

They are a lot closer to “just Texan Brits” than they think

    • Killzig311 hours ago

I learned the term seppos. That’s pretty funny.

  • roseguardin411 hours ago

I have to say it, our playing out of the back is woeful. We’re getting away with it because Australia are pushing very high and tbh haven’t been good since the goal, but the actual buildup is just awful and neuters any attacks as well because we get pushed out to the flanks and it’s easy to shut us down. On one level I get inviting them on to us since we’ve got a lead and can try and hit them on the counter, on another I think it’s just exposing what is already a soft defense that doesn’t look wholly comfortable with the ball at our feet.

Apart from the LeBron James of soccer who went off injured are the US missing many starting players?

    • DistributionPretty75👤711 hours ago

Dest and Antonee Robinson are both out, although the latter has basically been out a year with injuries, both locked in starters when healthy. Tyler Adams just had a newborn and is out for camp, and Balogun our 9 is not playing tonight either.

Tilman is out tonight who’s a starter, and we’ve rotated Sands in opposed to Tessman who’s also a better player.

      • bruversonbruh111 hours ago

Tasman and balogun just came on

        • DistributionPretty75👤111 hours ago

Yeah, for some reason I thought Balo wasn’t even gonna get burn tonight but good to see him again

    • Agreeable_Cattle_691311 hours ago

Adams Robinson and Dest are the 3 big ones

    • TeamRocketApologist👤711 hours ago

Tim Ream, Sergino Dest, Jedi Robinson, Tyler Adams, Folarin Balogun, Malik Tillman just to name a few.

      • herbilicious92👤011 hours ago

Would they all be starters or some of the depth players? I ask because I think both a full strength Socceroos and full strength USA at the WC next year would be spicy af

        • TeamRocketApologist👤511 hours ago

They’re all starters, Ream, Robinson and Dest nailed on, Tillman cemented his place this year as well as Balogun. Adams would probably be a question of the formation but he is undoubtedly our best DM

        • roseguardin211 hours ago

It kinda depends on if Poch plays this back 3 or not, I think it’s only like the second or third time he’s playing it with us. In this system one of the fullbacks (Dest or Robinson) might miss out for Weah or vice versa, and the midfield would definitely be different to accommodate Adams and Tillman. Plus Balogun would probably start.

        • DistributionPretty75👤311 hours ago

Likely all would be starters outside of maybe Ream depending on how Father Time treats him over the next few months

  • Keg_of_St_Anky311 hours ago

Going from an international friendly match to school shootings within 1 comment is the most accurate description of reddit. Wow.

It seems whenever someone feels slightly inferior to an american in any particular way, the next thing to be brought up is “AT LeASt oUR sChoOLs aREnT SHoOTinG RaNgES!!1!11!”

      • breakfastisconfusing711 hours ago

Yall were talking about school shootings well before whatever that comment said was made lol. There’s some from the first half lol

        • MilkByHomelander-311 hours ago

Nah, it’s needed. When your country gets it shit together and children don’t have to risk being shot to get an education then there will be no need for those comments.

          • leftofthedial15🇺🇸811 hours ago

There’s no need for it because we’re well aware of it. That’s a pretty fucked up thing for OP to say as a parent.

            • Equivalent_Hall_2102👤-411 hours ago

In no way am I advocating or celebrating it. I’m pointing out how fucked up your country is that your left and right can’t even agree to an easily solved issue that is the leading cause of death for your children. I don’t have to worry about that over here. We’re objectively more free than you. We just can’t walk around with guns, or buy guns that no person reasonably needs.

              • leftofthedial15🇺🇸611 hours ago

Oh, it’s an easily solved issue is it? Care to elaborate?

I love hearing outside commentary about this very, very real problem from people who know next to nothing about said problem. Thanks!

                • Equivalent_Hall_2102👤-411 hours ago

The answer you’ve been told a million times after every single shooting over there? Stricter gun controls. A lot of Australians own guns. We just control what types of guns you can buy, and how they’re stored securely, and safely. We also have stringent background checks to get a licence before you can purchase a gun. Guns are also only used for recreational shooting in specific locations, or hunting, again in specific locations. The police do regular compliance checks as well to ensure guns haven’t been sold or stolen, are being secured correctly. This also works to avoid children finding or having easy access to fire arms as the ammunition needs to be stored separately and also securely.
There’s no reason for someone to be walking or driving around with an unsecured fully loaded assault rifle ever.

        • Equivalent_Hall_2102👤-111 hours ago

No need for your kids to get shot at school either… but here we are.

          • leftofthedial15🇺🇸511 hours ago

That was a pretty fucked up thing to say in general, much less as a parent.

No need for your kids to get shot at school either

And of course not. How do you suppose we should fix that? I’m all ears.

            • Equivalent_Hall_2102👤-111 hours ago

It’s the situation that’s fucked up, not my comments. The answer you’ve been told a million times after every single shooting over there? Stricter gun controls. A lot of Australians own guns. We just control what types of guns you can buy, and how they’re stored securely, and safely. We also have stringent background checks to get a licence before you can purchase a gun. • leftofthedial15🇺🇸711 hours ago

                Stricter gun controls.

Holy shit, reddit. THEY SOLVED IT.

There are more than 400,000,000 guns in the United States already. That’s the problem. I’m all in favor of stricter gun controls. I’m a big proponent of it, in fact. But the sheer amount of guns legally in the hands of citizens is not an issue that can be legislated away. It will take a massive cultural shift regarding attitudes towards firearms before anything really changes, unfortunately.

Keep joking about it in the meantime though.

                • Equivalent_Hall_2102👤011 hours ago

Cool? So the answer is… to keep doing nothing? You think we didn’t have massive gun buy backs, and massive uproar when we did it? I’m so sorry your gun culture might be inconvenienced by the changes, show’s your priorities when avoiding that is more important than avoiding the result of not doing it…
                  Now that’s fucked up.

                  • leftofthedial15🇺🇸311 hours ago

So the answer is… to keep doing nothing

Please point out where I said this. Thanks.

You’re making an apples to oranges comparison. You really have no idea what you’re talking about.

                    • Equivalent_Hall_2102👤111 hours ago

So what are you doing to stop it, what are you pushing for to change exactly? If I’m so far off the mark?
From the outside looking in, complacence is as good as endorsement.

    • MilkByHomelander-911 hours ago

who isn’t even good enough to play in Norway

Plays quite often in Norway. Typical American following in the President’s footsteps of spreading fake facts.

Downvoting because you are wrong is also very typical of Americans.

Smh, let me get the facts for you all.

45 games missed due to injury. Upon joining the club, he played in every game until he got injured. Upon returning from injury, he played in every game until he got injured again. Upon returning from injury again, he spent one game on the bench and then played in every game since.

But sure. Believe the fake news from the MAGA lad

      • WhoEatsRusk411 hours ago

6 matches and one goal, most of his games have been off the bench

Edit: bro had to retread on this entire comment to move goal posts

        • MilkByHomelander-411 hours ago

He’s been injured? Did you ignore that when you looked at his transfermarkt page?

He’s literally missed 45 games since joining Viking due to injury.

The moment he’s not injured, he’s straight back into the team. As evident by the fact that upon returning from injury he spent one game on the bench and then was straight back into the team.

I was looking at futmob fam and he’s barely playing. You said he plays quite often, I added context

            • MilkByHomelander011 hours ago

Sorry for not wording it properly for you.

              Is this better?

He plays quite often in Norway when he’s not injured. Practically every game he’s been available for, he’s played.

Does that help? So yes, he does play, he is good enough to play in Norway, and old mate is still spitting out false facts.

                Moving the goal post smh

                • MilkByHomelander111 hours ago

Smh, never moved the goal posts. Check the original comment. The goalposts were the same the entire time.

                  Jog on buddio

My guy, I know you edited your comment, you know you edited your comment, you gotta stop moving this goalpost buddy

                    • MilkByHomelander111 hours ago

I only added onto the comment, I literally never changed anything in the original thing I said.

                      Jog on “my guy”

      • redhat000🇺🇸511 hours ago

Starting 7 games in the league (for both 2023 and 2024) counts as playing quite often?

        • MilkByHomelander111 hours ago

He’s been injured? Did you ignore that when you looked at his transfermarkt page?

He’s literally missed 45 games since joining Viking due to injury.

The moment he’s not injured, he’s straight back into the team. As evident by the fact that upon returning from injury he spent one game on the bench and then was straight back into the team.

He basically plays every time hes fit.

Just an FYI, that guy is American and is constantly making new accounts and getting banned from r/CanadianPL because all he does is talk shit about US soccer

  • herbilicious92👤-1011 hours ago

When the Roos beat USA the WC hosting rights should default to them after they already beat Canada

    • ozymandais13111 hours ago

      They play Mexico?

      • herbilicious92👤111 hours ago

No but I think we’d be happy to co-host with them. Mexicans seem like a lot of fun

  • Richmantiss👤011 hours ago

No such thing as a friendly especially when Australia need to win to get in Pot 2 for the world cup draw

If you don’t play to win you aren’t preparing yourself properly for the fully competitive games

    • ozymandais13111 hours ago

Didn’t imagine the friendly would actually gove them enough points for that

      • Richmantiss👤211 hours ago

Litterally 2-3 points between being 23-25

        • ozymandais13111 hours ago

Closer than I expected , guess sit makes sense then

The US is probably the worst of the Anglo countries

      Yes

CAN/AUS/NZ have all been playing much better the past 2 years.

Oh I thought you meant in general.

      • LesJawns610👤011 hours ago

It’s also true in general since the 3 other countries have achieved much more w/ less money and fewer people.
