Wasn’t there an relatively old fifa game that in the story mode you needed to play in LAFC or LA Galaxy after a failed transfer to Real Madrid, carry them to a title, and then you could be transferred to Madrid because then they knew you were the real deal?
I am starting to believe that narrative right now to be honest.

Who’s the most prestigious club in Brazil? Is it Flamengo? As a foreigner i know most of the clubs in Brazil but I don’t know the historical standing of them
dedezin40457 hours ago
I’d say the most prestigious are Flamengo, São Paulo or Palmeiras. Fla and São Paulo are the only big teams never relegated, but the three have the most titles. São Paulo for example has three consecutive league titles, Palmeiras has the most league titles overral, and all three are tied with 3 libertadores. However, Flamengo and Palmeiras have been dominating in the last years (only in the last two years Botafogo made a comeback with Textor investment) and São Paulo have not won anything important in the last decade (I think just a sul-americana , equal to europa league).
Edit: sao paulo won a Brazilian cup in 2023

Currently Flamengo and Palmeiras have the most titles. Flamengo and Corinthians have the biggest fanbases.
Santos was huge in the past, but not so much in recent years. They also have their run when Neymar was there. The ones that won more the brazilian league are Palmeiras, Flamengo, Santos and Corinthians.
MysteriousEdge564327 hours ago
Thank you for your response. I’ve been getting more and more into Latin American football recently and I think I’ve found a new league to watch.
How big is the gap in popularity and titles between the top clubs in Brazil? For example, Spain is regarded as having three big clubs in terms of trophies and fanbase sizes.
Santos’s downfall has been surprising. As an outsider, when I thought of Brazillian football, the club that came to my mind first was Santos. Even at the Club World Cup game between Seattle and PSG. I saw dozens and dozens of Neymar Santos jerseys. I remember they got relegated a few years ago and that was a massive deal
bellamollen47 hours ago
Our main championship is the brasileirão série A. Palmeiras has 12, Flamengo and Santos 8, Corinthians 7, São Paulo 6 then it’s Cruzeiro, Vasco and Fluminense with 4, etc. Most Santos titles were in the 60’s though, their last one was in 2004.
About fanbase size, Flamengo has about 43 mi, Corinthians 32mi, Palmeiras and São Paulo about 16 mi, Vasco about 14mi, etc. Different sources put different numbers. You can see different pools here.
We have what we call it the “big 12”, which are the 12 brazilian Libertadores winners and are teams always fighting for the championships. Some years some are bad and can even get relegated while others are good, and that changes with time. Sometimes some clubs are bad for a decade, or even more. Everyone used to make jokes about botafogo for example, but now they were bought by a billionaire and are winning titles.
There used to be a joke that only old people are fans of Santos because they lived for the past victories, but then Neymar came and that changed. People here usually are fans of teams their families are fans, so even if your team is bad they still have a lot of fans.
Btw, CazeTV on youtube has the brazilian league serie A for free on youtube, You just need to use a vpn to watch it.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
RhiaStark47 hours ago
How big is the gap in popularity and titles between the top clubs in Brazil?
It’s usually said we have twelve “greats” in Brazil: clubs that have a lot of history, a decent number of important titles and, every now and then, are frank contenders for trophies. However, every now and then one or a few of these greats experience a drought of titles, sometimes even relegation. The recent years’ consistency of Flamengo and Palmeiras is something we only see every couple decades.
In terms of titles, the “smallest” of the greats is arguably Botafogo, with two Brazilian championships and one Libertadores (plus various trophies from old tournaments). For a comparison, Flamengo has 8 Brazilian championships, 5 Brazil Cups, 3 Libertadores and 1 Intercontinental Cup (the original club world cup). Even so, Botafogo has one of the most illustrious histories in the country: they’re the club with the most players called to the national team, they were the foundation of the 1962 WC winning Brazil side, they’re the club of Garrincha, Jairzinho…
Vasco is one club with many important titles: 4 Brazilian championships, 1 Brazil Cup, 1 Libertadores, 1 Mercosul (the old Sulamericana)… Until the early 2010s, they had some pretty competitive teams, despite a relegation in 2008. But since 2013 they’ve experienced three relegations, a collection of historical embarrassments, and are very far from becoming a competitive team again. Funnily, they’re the only one of Rio de Janeiro’s four greats not to go to this Club World Cup.
edit: forgot to mention, but those 12 greats are traditionally considered to be Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco, Botafogo, São Paulo, Santos, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Atlético-MG, Cruzeiro, Grêmio and Internacional. There have been national champions outside of these, such as Juventude, Guarani, Criciúma, Athletico-PR, Bahia and Sport; but these have never been considered to be as constant or as outstanding as the others (maybe Athletico deserves to be considered the 13th great, though; they’ve even won Sulamericanas and been to two Libertadores finals after all).
west_india_man37 hours ago
On a national level, there’s a Big 12, which have by far the most national and international titles. Most states have their own Big 2-4 though: for example, neither Remo nor Paysandu are part of the Big 12, but they dominate the Pará state league
NoNamesAvaiIable37 hours ago
Santos is a club from a relatively small town in São paulo, not from one of the capital cities, which limits it’s reach, especially since it’s surrounded by the giants, both from São Paulo and from nearby Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.
In terms of popularity, it’s centered around the southeast of the country, especially the three richest states, Rio, São Paulo and Minas gerais. Flamengo and Corinthians are the biggest fanbases, Flamengo at around 45 million and Corinthians somewhere in the mid 30 millions. In titles it’s relatively close. This was from 2 years ago
Daniell_BMC37 hours ago
SPFC
NoNamesAvaiIable97 hours ago
Prestigious by what metric? I think the team with the most national titles (cup + league) is narrowly palmeiras, then flamengo and a few others.
By money? Flamengo
By fan #? Flamengo
MysteriousEdge564367 hours ago
Total trophies as well as recent success.
Interesting that you said Flamengo was the most popular team even though they don’t have the most titles. Why is that the case? Most countries the most successful team is the most popular as well
Ravena__37 hours ago
Our league is a bit different from most countries as we historically have 12 big teams that have a huge fan base and all won at least one continental title plus some national ones. There’s also +3 teams that are also considered big, but not necessarily past of the 12 group.
Brazil is, as you’ve probably heard lot, a huge country. Several states are bigger than many European countries and each one will have their teams, local rivals and all of that.
Basically, big country, very competitive league and not really a monopoly on one team (also we are Brazilian so it always feels like our teams are one crocked present away from going bankrupt)
Maleficent-Ant-607577 hours ago
They had their best teams during the peak of the television era. Flamengo, Corinthians, Palmeiras, São Paulo and Vasco have national fan bases because of this, especially Flamengo and Corinthians. As for which is the biggest, it’s best not to ask this question unless you want to generate a huge discussion, the dynamics of Brazilian football are very different compared to European leagues.
piralski57 hours ago
Flamengo is the most popular in Brazil because it was the most popular in Rio, which was the country’s capital and continues to be the city that concentrates the largest radio and television media.Corinthians is also very popular in Brazil because it is the most popular team in São Paulo, the country’s financial center and the state with the largest population. Both Flamengo and Corinthians were successful in their state championships before the 1950s, when the largest fan bases were established. After that, even after years without titles, those fan bases remained the most popular.
west_india_man27 hours ago
The Brazilian league is very balanced, there’s no one or two teams that run away with it every year like in Europe
NoNamesAvaiIable47 hours ago
I think the difference between the national titles is like Palmeiras has 18 and flamengo has 16, so it’s not too wide a gap. Recent success is hard to say, Both Flamengo and Palmeiras have dominated south american and national football since 2019, it’s probably even.
As for why Flamengo is the most popular, it’s a club that was formed in Rio de Janeiro, which at the time was capital of the country, it’s known as a club of the people, demographically most fans of Flamengo are part of the lower classes, which as you can imagine is the highest population.
In the early days, before TVs were widespread, radio stations from Rio broadcast their games nationwide, so people in all corners of the country were able to follow the team, and so it’s basically got the biggest fanbase in every region of brazil.

Dolo is leaving after this game? He’s slated to leave after the end of the season but the front office deciding to fast track his departure is the right move here at this point. I’m hoping they get Vicente Sánchez.

The worst thing here in Brazil about the match between Flamengo and Bayern will be having to listen to Rafinha talk the whole time about what it’s like to play for both clubs. He’s a horrible pundit.
Which Rafiñha? Barcelona Rafinha?
Former Bayern Rafinha, the eternal Lahm backup.
Oh okay. For some reason I was thinking of Rafael Alcântara do Nascimento, but he was at PSG, not Bayern.
Seems like a soft yellow.
LA smash and grab incoming
honest wtf even
I don’t understand this game anymore, what the hell.

This DAZN commentary is actually ruining the match
This woman commentator is one of the worst. It almost sounds as if she has a speech impediment. Doesn’t finish sentences. Jumbles words. Like every sentence is laborious to get out.
How have they not scored!?
Player of the match: post
This game is cursed we dont have nothing to do
4th off the post lmao
Flamengo fans started chanting “Giroud go fuck yourself” in Portuguese because it rhymes.
Giroud, not understanding what the fans are chanting, applauds and thanks them unironically. He must be thinking like shit I might be a legend after all.
Let’s call it what it is…Martinez fucking sucks man lmao
This Martinez guy is our best defender
David Martinez is not a very smart player
Please flamengo score, this game is putting me to sleep.
Can’t believe they named a club after Everton
Actually your Everton was named after the club.
Brazilian boys named after Everton 🤝🏻 American girls named after Chelsea
Unlucky
If Flamengo lose this match, they still in 1st right?
Yes
Peter is not playing well, unfortunately
Who’s the most prestigious club in Brazil? Is it Flamengo? As a foreigner i know most of the clubs in Brazil but I don’t know the historical standing of them
I’d say the most prestigious are Flamengo, São Paulo or Palmeiras. Edit: sao paulo won a Brazilian cup in 2023
Esqueceu da copa do brasil que ganharam encima da gente kkkk
Nossa verdade apaguei isso da minha memória
Currently Flamengo and Palmeiras have the most titles. Flamengo and Corinthians have the biggest fanbases.
Santos was huge in the past, but not so much in recent years. They also have their run when Neymar was there. The ones that won more the brazilian league are Palmeiras, Flamengo, Santos and Corinthians.
On a national level, there’s a Big 12, which have by far the most national and international titles. Most states have their own Big 2-4 though: for example, neither Remo nor Paysandu are part of the Big 12, but they dominate the Pará state league
SPFC
Prestigious by what metric? I think the team with the most national titles (cup + league) is narrowly palmeiras, then flamengo and a few others.
By money? Flamengo
By fan #? Flamengo
Total trophies as well as recent success.
Interesting that you said Flamengo was the most popular team even though they don’t have the most titles. Why is that the case? Most countries the most successful team is the most popular as well
Our league is a bit different from most countries as we historically have 12 big teams that have a huge fan base and all won at least one continental title plus some national ones.
The Brazilian league is very balanced, there’s no one or two teams that run away with it every year like in Europe
Thank you for the response!
Flamengo putting as much effort into this as me studying Linear Algebra.
This DraftKings commercial pisses me off. The ref isn’t even in real football referee attire he’s wearing a Zebra striped uniform like an American Football ref
Inter Miami are the real flamingos, this one isn’t even pink.
I see what you did there.
They aren’t flamingos, they are flemish
People keep asking for Pedro in the seleção, but like, he doesn’t seem to be able to score
He’s returning from an ACL, didnt played a full match yet.
Could have been a PK. Pedro protected the ball and Marlon knocked him over, but it was clear Marlon tried to pull out. Also clear though that his contact brought Pedro down. Just maybe not enough control to warrant a review.
That pass from arrascaeta not being an assist is a crime
I’m starting to think both teams are phoning this in lol
Concussion FC
Also I just realized the Airbnb commercial that plays during the break, the background song is magical mystery tour by the Beatles. It’s very subtle
For such an uneventful game, this has been stopped so damn much. This referee likes to talk
“Little Onion” ok that’s adorable
He was given this nickname because of a comic character named that. He said in a interview that even his wife calls him that and when she calls him by his name he knows she’s mad.
Eu acho incrível como ele pode ser tão A CARA DO CEBOLINHA se todos os personagens da turma da Mônica tem basicamente o mesmo rosto
Is flamengo even trying to score?? I know there is 6 guys in front of the goal but dear god is the finishing atrocious today
Alguem tem a copypasta do renato sobre posse de bolaem inglês
I wonder if Flamengo would do better if Giroud was their striker
I’d accept it just for shits and giggles
Imagine Giroud scoring Gignac-esque goals in Brazil.
Worst Flamengo since last week
This tournament has been full of offside goals for LAFC
Ref hates MLS
LAFC corners seem very well trained
No fun allowed
LOOOOOOL
Team Comparison:
Flamengo (43rd in the world, €221,000,000 squad value)
LAFC (165th in the world, €51,000,000 squad value)
Wow LAFC is above Corinthians. Feels bad man.
Corinthians is worth 116M euros
I mean the placing. If I’m not mistaken we are at 200.
176th
🥲
What is this goalkeeping lol, what is this defending
Surely the guy that played the ball to Pedro there was offside
I think everyone from LA was on offside position there, even the guys who stood in front of the goalkeeper for the 1st clearance
Oh wow that was ugly and completely avoidable as there wasn’t even a Flamengo player going for the ball. Hope Lloris is alright
3x1 in the post challenge
LAFC are 100% phoning this in lmao
Uhh
About that…😅
How I wish you weren’t correct. So embarrassing.
They’ve looked horrible all tournament, not just this match. No idea what’s going on with that squad.
Atrocious finish by Pedro
Flamengo makes some beautiful plays to then miss shots without a goalkeeper
That’s wild Flamengo can’t get it in the net to save their lives.
Wild game
Third Flamengo ball to hit the woodwork… but this one just makes me laugh, empty net… come on.
Fate is toying with Flamengo, holy fuck
Imagine injuring your own keeper
Yeah this will be a tie
Ain’t no way!
LOL that was hilarious
3 balls off the post lol
OMG
That’s cant be true man
Flamengo’s finishing is atrocious
Holy fuck no excuses for Pedro missing an open net like that, you can’t miss sitters like these against neuer on sunday
I’m at the stadium right now, this is basically a Flamengo home game its insane
45M fans in Brazil, let alone those amongst brazilian diaspora.
That’s basically every game where we are allowed to buy tickets haha
Y’all are amazing
Everyone mocks us because we don’t have our own stadium, but Flamengo is the only team in Brazil (and maybe the world) that has like 3 or 4 home turfs
Every now and then we play home games at Brasília or Pará or Espírito Santo
Hey you’re welcome to join the nation!
LA looking completely dead so far
Not surprised. I heard through some good sources that the manager for LAFC is gone after this tournament. He couldn’t motivate a starving man to eat, so I don’t see how he can motivate this team to play after getting eliminated.
Dolo is leaving after this game? He’s slated to leave after the end of the season but the front office deciding to fast track his departure is the right move here at this point. I’m hoping they get Vicente Sánchez.
Edit: I just realized that Hannover 96’s managerial spot is open…I’m fulling betting he’s getting that job if this is the reason for his early departure.
Yeah. I just heard from someone today who has some club connections that he’s leaving after this tournament. If it’s true and not just rumor, I don’t know. But it would be best for the club going forward for sure.
